About the Jaffna Centre
At the end of the thirty year war in Sri Lanka in 2009, CALSDA was one of the first institutions to assist the teachers and students in the war torn areas of Jaffna and opened a branch office in the year 2010. Having held several teacher training programmes in Jaffna, many were given the confidence to start teaching on their own. The office served to provide easy access to teaching material and other examination related items.
Having established a good teacher / students base today, we have approximately twenty five teachers who enter around 2500 students annually for CALSDA examinations in Spoken and Written English, Communication Skills and Speech and Drama. Examinations are conducted in Jaffna by Examiners from CALSDA who travel from Colombo and reside in Jaffna during the examination period which is about ten (10) days. Twelve teachers from Jaffna were present at the Teacher Training Programme in Colombo even this year, on the 17th of February 2020. In 2019 several teachers from Jaffna (25 in February 2019 and 8 in August 2019) attended Teacher Training programmes in Colombo.
